March 8th is a holiday to celebrate International Women's Day. Initially, this day was established in the early 1900s as a way to promote equal rights for women. For many decades, women from many countries with different ethnic and cultural backgrounds came together to remember the struggles they had to go through to get the opportunity to have the same rights as men, especially in terms of having a privilege to vote, getting an education and a job. International Women's Day is all about appreciating the courage of the women who fought for equal rights, but also to empower women, to boost their confidence and to show their potential. 

Nowadays, the original meaning of this holiday has been lost in a way. Some people don't even know what this holiday is all about, whereas others just take it as a change to get together with friends and family to have fun. However some things stayed the same, on this day many men take the opportunity to express their sincere appreciation, love and respect to women whether that be their mothers, grandmothers, sisters, wives, girlfriends or just female friends. It is customary for them to give flowers and presents to the women. Some men also prepare a nice dinner, clean the home and take care of their women any way they can to allow the women to have a relaxing day. In some workplaces, male colleagues often give flowers and even small gifts to their female colleagues on this day. 

Nevertheless, it's important to celebrate March 8th as a token of appreciation, respect and support for the women who have changed history and those women who are still fighting for equal rights in developing countries all over the world. I hope that for many years to come, this holiday will still be celebrated in many countries of the world to keep reminding women that they can achieve anything they want if they believe in their own strength and power.
