Moscow State University is the oldest, autonomous, and self-governing institution of higher education. It was founded in 1755 by the scientist Mikhail Lomonosov. Several museums and colleges are affiliated with Moscow University. And a preparatory faculty teaches Russian language and other subjects to foreign students. Most faculties are located in the old university buildings in the center of the city. The science faculties and some of the arts faculties are situated in south-western Moscow. A diploma in a given field of study is awarded after four or five and a half years of study. The university is famous for the high standard of its teaching and research. It keeps open its doors to anyone who strives for new discoveries and creativity.
