Это случилось после того, как великий актер стал всемирно известен. 
Театр объявил о "конкурсе двойников". Люди, которые хотели принять участие в конкурсе должны были одеться как Чаплин, ходить как он и разыграть одну из ролей Чаплина из фильмов, в которых он снимался. 
Когда Чарли Чаплин услышал об этом он решил - в шутку - принять участие в этом конкурсе. И, конечно, он держал свой план в секрете от каждого. 
Когда были объявлены результаты конкурса, Чаплин обнаружил, что он не выиграл первый приз. Поначалу он был расстроен, но потом решил, что это даже смешно.
