William Shakespeare (eng. William Shakespeare[3]; 26 April 1564 (baptism)[⇨], Stratford-upon-Avon, England — April 23 (may 3) 1616[⇨], ibid) — English poet and playwright, often considered the greatest English writer and one of the best playwrights in the world[4]. Often called England's national poet[5]. His extant works, including some written jointly with other authors, consist of about 38 plays, 154 sonnets, 4 poems and 3 epitaphs. Shakespeare's plays translated into every major living language and are performed more often than the works of other playwrights[6].

Shakespeare was born and grew up in Stratford-upon-Avon. At 18 he married Anne Hathaway, in marriage, with whom he had three children: a daughter Susanna and the twins Judith and Hamnet. Career began Shakespeare between 1585 and 1592, when he moved to London. He soon became a successful actor, playwright, and part owner of a theatre company called "the Servants of the Lord Chamberlain's men, later known as the "Servant king". Around 1613 at the age of 48 he returned to Stratford, where he died three years later. Have very little historical evidence about Shakespeare's life and theories about life are based on official documents and testimonies of contemporaries, so the scientific community still discusses issues regarding his appearance and religious beliefs, and there is a view that attributed to him a work created by someone else[7][8]; it is popular in the culture, although it is rejected by the overwhelming majority of scientists shekspiroved.

Most of the works of Shakespeare written between 1589 and 1613[9]. His early plays are mostly comedies and Chronicles in which Shakespeare excelled greatly. Then in his work it was a period of tragedy, including works of "hamlet," "King Lear", "Othello" and "Macbeth", which are among the best in the English language. At the end of his work Shakespeare wrote several tragicomedies and collaborated with other writers.

Many of his plays were published during his lifetime. In 1623, two friends of Shakespeare, John Heming and Henry Condell, published the First folio, the collection of all but two of Shakespeare's plays, now included in the Canon. Later, Shakespeare was by various researchers with varying degrees of evidence attributed even a few plays (or fragments thereof).
