Dear Fred,

verbs

I am having a great time here with my brother in the west of England.

I think it is the most interesting place I have ever visited. As you know, Steve is at university here and so I am staying with him. He has been here for three years and he says the town is not the same since he first arrived here and things have changed. He says that when he first came here, it was difficult to get around but over the years that has changed and now they have started new bus routes.

As for my news, so far, I have been to the local museum and have learned a lot of things about natural history and wild animals. The paintings in the different rooms were wonderful too. And it didn't cost anything either

After walking around all the galleries, I had a soft drink and a snack.

That was good too. I haven't bought any souvenirs yet, but perhaps I will get some tomorrow.

Anyway, that's about all for now.

I like travelling very much. I (7) took (take) my first trip when I was 7. Mt friend and I (8) travelled (travel) to Minnesota, to visit my mother’s friend. While we were going there, I (9) asked (ask) my mother different questions. I asked about the language they spoke. I soon learned that they spoke the same language, and I wanted to know more about other places in the world. The next big trip was to Denver, Colorado. I (10) saw (see) the Rocky Mountains for the (11) first (one) time. They were wonderful. I loved every minute of this trip. Then I visited Paris, one of the (12) best (good) cities in the world. It was (13) more exciting than any of my past travels.

Guy Fawkes Day. November 5th is Guy Fawkes Day in Britain. All over the country people build wood fires, or "bonfires" in their gardens. On top of each bonfire is a guy. That is a figure of Guy Fawkes. He was one of a band of conspirators who wanted to blow up the Houses of Parliament and kill King James I and his ministers. However, the plot failed, Fawkes was caught on the 5th of November 1605. The conspirators were executed and Britain has celebrated Guy Fawkes night then. Before November 5th, children use their guys to make money. They stand in the street and shout "Penny for the guy". Then spend the money on fireworks.
