Tower on north bank of Thames is one of most ancient buildings of London. It was founded in 11th century by William Conqueror (Вильгельм Завоеватель). Their everyday uniform is black and red, but on state occasions they wear ceremonial dress: fine red state uniforms with golden and black stripes and wide lace-collar, which were in fashion in 16th century. It goes back to middle Ages. Five minutes before hourHeadwarder (старший страж) comes out with bunch of keys and old lantern. He goes to __guardhouse and cries: “Escort for the keys”. Then he closes three gates and goes to sentry (часовой) who calls: “Halt, who comes there?” – Headwarder replies: “Whose Keys?” - demands sentry. “Queen Elizabeth’s keys”, comes answer. “Advance Queen Elizabeth’s Keys. All’s well”. keys are finally carried to Queen’s House where they are safe for night. After ceremony everyone who approachesgate must give password or turn away.
