                                         Sir Francis Drake

Sir Francis Drake  was an English pirate and explorer.

He was born sometime between 1540 and 1544 in Tavistock, England.

He took part in a few expeditions travelling to Africa and across the Atlantic. He would attack the Spanish ships and towns taking their gold and silver. In November 1577 Drake and his fleet of five ships left England  and sailed across the Atlantic and the Pacific. After three years of sailing, in September 1580, Drake arrived back home in England.

Drake's expedition was only the second in history to sail around the world. He also brought back lots of treasure for Queen Elizabeth I.
