Everybody has heard stories about vampires. The word vampire is of Slavic origin, as the legend originated centuries ago in south-eastern Europe, in Transylvania and Serbia. In the Middle Ages, there were many folk legends about vampires, but places like Transylvania and Serbia seemed like the end of the world to the people of Western Europe at that time. Since the inhabitants of Germany , France and England did not know about these distant lands , they listened with fear and amazement to the strange tales told by merchants and travelers.

With time, literature started to play an important role in popularizing vampires. Many romantic authors in the early nineteenth century wrote novels about foggy mountains, terrifying creatures, distant castles and their mysterious inhabitants. In 1897 , Bram Stoker wrote a book about Dracula the most famous vampire of all time. He based his story on the life of a fifteenth- century Valachian ruler, Vlad IV Dracula, who was known for exceptional cruelty and criminal actions. Stoker’s tale was set in Transylvania, in Count Dracula’s castle, and in 19th- century London. However, Dracula was not a historical novel. It’s a romance, a story about an unhappy vampire who fell in love with Mina, a beautiful girl who reminded Dracula of the wife he had lost years ago. Later, vampires became part of mass culture. In the 20th century, Stoker’s book was the source of inspiration for film makers who started to make new versions of the story.

The big panda is one of the most famous animals on our planet. But due to the fact that their number decreases, it was added to the Red Book.

What does it look like?
In appearance, it looks like a small, clumsy teddy bear. She has white shaggy hair, and her ears, shoulders, chest and paws are black. Almost cat eyes hiding in the black ovals on her face. In general, the big panda is a very charming animal. She was so fond of the man that he even started shooting cartoons with her in the title role.

Animals

There are a lot of animals in Russia. They are foxes, wolves, hares, tigers, birds and others. But the national symbolof our country is a brown bear, and I’d like to tell you about it.

Bears are carnivorous mammals. Scientists say that bears appeared 5-6million years ago on the territory of modern France. There are several species of this animal, some of them are extinct. The brown bear has a special place in the hearts of the Russian people. This animal lives in the mountains and forests of Russia. It is a very large animal with a large round head, small round ears and a long mouth with 42 teeth. The brown bear has got thick fur and large paws with long claws that can grow up to 10 cm long. It eats berries and nuts, roots, grass, insects and fish. This big and beautiful animal is a favorite character of Russian fairytales and cartoons.

Despite the fact that the brown bear is the national symbol of Russia, my favorite animals a husky dog. There is the Siberian huskyand the Alaskan husky. The dogs of this breed are very beautiful. They are of medium height and weight. Huskies have got thick fur, a long tail and short triangular ears. Their eyes are often light or dark blue, and I like it very much.Husky dogs are very energetic, strong-willed, intelligent and friendly. They like children very much and are very good pets. Huskies like cold weather and are happy to be outdoors. They are very good sled dogs. In winter my parents and I sometimes join husky dogs sledding, and I’m always looking forward to this wonderful adventure.
