Vincent van Gogh was a brilliant Dutch painter. He was born in 1853 in the Netherlands. Van Gogh had many different jobs when he was young. But in
the end, he decided to study painting. In 1886, he went to Paris to live with
his brother Theo. Theo was Van Gogh's best friend and always gave his
brother money for food. Van Gogh painted day and night for many hours,
he didn't eat or sleep well enough. Because of this, he soon became sick. In
1889, he moved to the countryside in Arles, in the south of France. In 1890,
he died at the age of 37. During his life, Van Gogh sold only one painting.
But today, his paintings are some of the most popular and expensive works
of art in the world. In his short life, Van Gogh achieved great things and
people continue to admire his paintings today. His most famous work is The
Starry Night (1889).
