The Internet has changed society and is an important part of most homes today. We can communicate with people all over the world and access anything we need. Nowadays you can pay your bills online or book holidays and cinema tickets.

More than seventy per cent of Internet users say that they go online to send and receive emails. Teenagers send on average between five and ten emails per day. We write to our friends who live far away but also to friends near us! Nobody needs paper and pen to write any more.

People use the Internet to search for information about their family. There are special sites to help you draw your family tree. Finding out about the lives of your great-grandparents takes time, and is expensive if you have to travel to different places.

Young and old, men and women. More and more people use the Internet to look for people with similar interests. They email each other and talk online. Can you really find new friends on the Internet?

The Internet is great for older people who aren’t able to go out. They don’t feel so lonely because they can talk to people online. The only problem is that many older people don’t use computers and are unsure of them. They need somebody to show them how to connect to the Internet, send emails and search the Internet.

Many people believe that the Internet isolates children and teenagers. They sit at home and spend hours alone in their bedrooms playing online games and chatting with their Internet friends. As a result, children and teenagers have problems communicating with real people.

The Internet has been developing very quickly. Some people say that we have only seen about ten per cent of what the Internet can do. If this is true, there are many more things to come.
