The series Riverdale, launched in 2017, is based on the comics about Archie, published in the independent publishing house Archie Comics since 1941. After a long all-American fame and subsequent period of oblivion, the popularity of the comics about Archie again went up the hill in the 2010s. It was decided to consolidate the commercial success by creating the series, where the role of the protagonist, an American of Scottish origin Archie Andrews, went to the Samoan Kei Jay Ape, and the role of his best friend, brooding, secluded and weird Dzhaghed Jones - Cole Sprouse [10], who previously played in very popular, glamorous teens [11].
In an interview devoted to Jaghead, Cole said that from childhood he was familiar with comics about Archie, although he admitted that they were not his favorite reading. His Jaghead, in contrast to the figure in the comics, is to a degree keen on food. Nevertheless, according to Cole, he tries to chew something small in each episode to remind him of his character's hobby [12].
The fun of all happened with Jaghead Jones's hat. Comics about Archie began to be created in the early 1940s, and Jaghead wore a felt hat with cropped zigzags and raised fields, the so-called “Whoopee cap,” popular in the pre-war years. Over the years of the comic book publication, this headdress has completely fallen out of use and has become associated only with Jaghead. In the series, Jaghead wears a modern wool cap, but her fields are cut and bent in the same way as they were from the beginning. Cole Sproit says about this: “The cap (Cole calls her“ beanie crown ”- the crown cap) seemed more modern and more suitable for the series. They are still connected. This is still strange. This is a completely different hat, but the essence remains the same "
The casting was successful - the series received generally positive reviews, and both leading actors were awarded prizes. Cole Demand received for the role of Jaghead Jones the “Teen Choice Awards” award for 2017 in two nominations at once - “The best actor of a drama series” and “The best on-screen couple” (together with Lily Reinhart).
