Sun Shines On Fun Run

On 12th June, a ‘Fun Run’ took place in the town of Sunnyfield. A group of sixteen-year-old students from the local high school came up with the idea and over 500 people of all ages took part.
Luckily, it was a sunny day. Everyone had fun running, walking or skateboarding the 10-mile distance. Thanks to the event, £2,346 was raised for the charity ‘Cancer Care’.
Suzie Hamilton, one of the students who organized the run, said, “We wanted to do something useful for others and this seemed the most fun thing to do.”
The local headmaster was so proud, he decided to make the event part of the school’s year calendar.

Who planned the event?
How many people took part?
What was the weather like during the ‘run’?
How far did they have to go?
What happened as the result of the event?

On Saturday Peter's friend called Nick went to see him. When he went into the room, Peter was practicing English words. His friend thought it was too much of a strain for a sick man, and suggested that he should put off doing his homework until he had completely recovered. Nick asked Peter how he felt, and expressed the hope that he would soon be quite well again. Nick also offered to go to the chemist's, but Peter said it wasn't necessary. The friends discussed a lot of other things, and at last Nick left, wishing Peter a speedy recovery.

Rime has been around us for many centuries. Every day when we open a newspaper or turn on TV almost all we read or hear is about criminals and their illegal actions. According to the law, people who commit a crime must be punished, imprisoned or even sentenced to a death penalty. Without punishment our life in the society would be less secure, although sometimes punishment isn’t strict enough, to my mind.

Some kinds of crimes are as old as the human society (such as stealing, pick-pocketing, vandalism, assault or domestic violence, murder and manslaughter), others are a more recent phenomenon. Armed robbery of stores and banks, hacking into computers (so called “cyber frauds”), corruption or forgery of money and documents, for instance, are some of them. The 20thcentury has also seen the appearance of organized crimes such as drug-trafficking, drug-smuggling and hijacking. Statistics show an alarming rise of violent crimes and crimes to do with the illegal sale of arms across the world. Unfortunately women and children often become the victims of crime. Sometimes criminals kidnap rich people or their kids and ask for a ransom to be paid for them.
