Было большое наводнение около нашего дома весной. Вода сошла с горы и холмов, вода в реке поднялась, и много домов в низине оказались  вскоре под водой. Красный Крест послал несколько человек, и они принесли еду и сухую одежду, и вывезли несколько людей к возвышенности в лодках. Один старик живет в небольшом доме около нашей реки. Он - бедный человек, и нет никаких других домов около его. Однажды ночью был сильный дождь, и утром старик выглянул из своего окна и увидел наводнение. Вода была почти до его окна спальни. Вода прибывала и прибывала, и старик пошёл на верхний этаж дома. Тогда наводнение было больше, и он поднялся на крышу. "Что я собираюсь делать?" он сказал. "Очень глубокая вода, а я не умею плавать." Но через три часа старик увидел лодку. Она медленно приближалась, и старик увидел двух молодых людей в ней." Мы приехали от Красного Креста," крикнул один из молодых людей, "и.. ."  

"Я сожалею," старик ответил, "но я только что дал Вам немного денег в этом месяце, и у меня нет их много. Я - бедный человек."
