from many
different places in the world. In one city you can find people
whose parents or great-grandparents came from Africa, Asia,
South America, and every European country. These different
people brought to their new land their traditions and their
lifestyle.
Americans have a lot of festivals of the Old World, but there
American festivals and traditions as well. For
example, Thanksgiving is an American holiday.
The tradition goes back to the year 1621 when they decided
to have a thanksgiving dinner for all the people. They wanted
to thank God for many things.
It was a difficult year, but the people still had food to eat.
They also wanted to thank the American Indians who helped
them.
Today Americans have Thanksgiving dinner on the fourth
Thursday of November. They usually eat turkey and sweet
potatoes. Thanksgiving is the day when families get together.

The day of Nowruz has its origins in the Iranian religion of Zoroastrianism and is thus rooted in the traditions of the Iranian peoples; however, it has been celebrated by diverse communities for over 3,000 years in Western Asia, Central Asia, the Caucasus, the Black Sea Basin, the Balkans, and South Asia.[27][28][29][30] Presently, while it is largely a secular holiday for most celebrants and enjoyed by people of several different faiths and backgrounds, Nowruz remains a holy day for Zoroastrians,[31] Baháʼís,[32] and some Muslim communities.[33][34]
