На самом деле, они и сами до конца не в курсе про конкретные причины. Здесь больше традиции, чем грамматики.

По поводу местоимения "я", то до 13 века у них было ich (ic) (как в немецком) для "я", и оно склонялось как "я" склоняется у нас в языке до сих пор (и не только у нас) . Потом в тексте стало появляться i наравне с ic - потом оно перестало склоняться, и предположительно для того, чтобы i не потерялось в тексте, особенно написанном от руки, стали выделять заглавной буквой.

А месяцы пишутся с большой буквы, т. к. месяц - это имя собственное - названия месяцев и дней недели давались по именам богов и знаменитых людей
