Принято считать, что в английском языке 12 времен.

Однако, с точки зрения грамматики это неверно.

Времен у английского глагола три:

- Настоящее (Present)

- Будущее (Future)

Также у английского глагола есть категория аспекта, т.е. то, как действие мыслится относительно момента речи.

Аспектов существует четыре:

- Simple (или Indefinite)

- Perfect

- Progressive (или Continuous)

- Perfect Progressive

Глагол в каждом аспекте может стоять в каждом времени, отсюда число 12.
