Mainly, this is due to the fact that the country has maintained strong cultural ties with countries that in the past were only dominions or British colonies - especially with those where English is recognized as state language, for example, Canada, the USA or Australia.

Speaking about British culture, it should be borne in mind that a significant contribution to its development was made by numerous Indian immigrants, as well as many of those who moved here from the countries of the Caribbean.

By its political structure, Great Britain is a democratic country. In Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland there are separate governments, but the supreme authority in the territory of the whole kingdom is the parliament.

The government is headed by the monarch, but the queen performs only representative functions, the country is directly governed by the prime minister, who is appointed by the king or queen.



The UK includes such subjects as: England, Northern Ireland, Scotland, Wales, as well as several overseas territories, quite remote from the Foggy Albion. As a member of NATO and the European Union, the United Kingdom is not, nevertheless, in the euro area. For many years the UK has been able to maintain its national currency, the Sterling Pound.
