Almaty is my favourite city. 

Almaty is the former capital of Kazakhstan. 
Almaty was the capital of the Kazakh SSR from 1929 to 1991 and of independent Kazakhstan from 1991 to 1997. In 1997, the capital was moved to Astana. Since then, Almaty has been referred to as the southern capital of Kazakhstan. Almaty is the major commercial and cultural centre of Kazakhstan. The city is located in the area of southern Kazakhstan, near the border with Kyrgyzstan. 

Almaty is the cultural, Scientific, economic and transport centre of Kazakhstan. This is one of the most beautiful cities of Asia. The city has a mild climate. Summer in Almaty lasts from May till September with the average temperature of 22 degrees in July. Winter is not very cold with the average temperature of 8 degrees below zero in January. 

The city was founded in 1854. Till 1921 it was named Verny. In 1929 Almaty became the capital of the Kazak Socialist Republic. Almaty was the capital of independent Kazakhstan till November 1997. Nowadays the city has seven theatres, many cinemas, hundreds of clubs, libraries and other cultural and educational centres. The most important theatres are the Kazak State Academic Opera and Ballet Theatre named after Abai and the Kazak State Academic Drama Theatre named after M.Auesov. The city also has the Russian, Uigur, Korean theatres and many other troupes. 

Verny had only one gymnasium. Now in Almaty there are 185 schools of general education, a lot of technical secondary schools and Universities. Almaty is a University city. Young people from different places og Kazakhstan come to study here. 

Almaty is situated at the food of the Ala-Tau montains. The climate is very favourable for gardening. Everybody in kazakstan knows the world famous apples "aport". The citizens of Almaty are proud of the well known skating-rink "Medeo". It is equipped with all modern sport facilities. The most important competition are held there. 

Almaty is the city of kind and hospitable people. It is a great pleasure to visit it.

Natural Disasters
Natural disasters such as flood, fire, tornado, earthquake, tsunamis are becoming more and more frequent on our planet. In short description a natural disaster is a result of a natural hazard, which has a negative effect on human beings. These geologic processes can lead to serious consequences such as loss of life, property damage, economic problems. Certain areas are more exposed to natural disasters. For example, most of New Zealand’s coastline is exposed to tsunami hazard, while the Far East region is exposed to floods. Being aware of possible dangers, people should be prepared to protect themselves, their families and communities. Two important preparation steps are the developing of emergency plan and assembling a supply kit. However, all the known disasters have unique nature and should be approached separately. Some of the common natural hazards are as follows: earthquake, flood, drought, heat wave, hurricane, volcanic eruption, hailstorm, tornado, tsunami, landslide, wildfire, blizzard. I’d like to tell you a bit more about floods, hurricane and earthquakes. A flood is an overflow of water that submerges land. In severe cases it can result in human and animal deaths. Very often the crops are destroyed, which brings famine. A hurricane is a severe tropical cyclone or storm that often occurs in certain parts of the Atlantic and Pacific Oceans. This destructive hazard can lead to changes in weather and economy. It can also result in heavy rains, thunderstorm, flood or even tornado. An earthquake is the result of a sudden collision among the tectonic plates of the Earth. Such collision leads to massive and occasionally deathly vibrations. However, learning about these specific threats and the measures, which should be taken, can save many lives.
Природные катастрофы 
Такие природные катастрофы, как наводнение, пожар, торнадо, землетрясение, цунами все чаще встречаются на нашей планете. Вкратце, природная катастрофа – это результат стихийного бедствия, которое оказывает негативное влияние на человека. Эти геологические процессы могут привести к серьезным последствиям, например, смерти, материальному ущербу, экономическим проблемам. Некоторые районы в большей степени подвержены стихийным бедствиям. Например, почти вся береговая линия Новой Зеландии подвержена цунами, в то время как Дальний Восток подвержен наводнениям. Зная о возможных опасностях, люди должны быть готовы защитить себя, свои семьи и общины. Два важных шага, которые нужно предпринять, это составить чрезвычайный план и собрать набор первой Тем не менее, все известные стихийные бедствия носят уникальный характер, поэтому их следует рассматривать по отдельности. К некоторым распространенным стихийным бедствиям относятся землетрясение, наводнение, засуха, жара, ураганы, извержения вулкана, град, торнадо, цунами, оползни, пожары, снежная буря. Я хотел бы рассказать вам немного подробнее о наводнениях, ураганах и землетрясениях. Наводнение – это затопление территории земли водой. В тяжелых случаях оно приводит к гибели людей и животных. Зачастую пропадает урожай, что приводит к голоду. Ураган – тяжелый тропический циклон или шторм, который часто встречается в определенных частях Атлантического и Тихого океанов. Его разрушительная сила может приводить к изменениям в погоде и экономике. Также, он может привести к проливным дождям, грозам, наводнению или даже к торнадо. Землетрясение является результатом внезапного столкновения тектонических плит Земли. Такое столкновение приводит к массовым колебаниям земли, иногда со смертельным исходом. Однако, зная конкретные угрозы и меры, которые нужно предпринять, можно жизнь многим людям.
