Most people have never heard of the name Edson Arantes do Nas
cimento, but they have heard of Pelé. Without question, Pelé is the
greatest soccer player ever. Edson Arantes do Nascimento and Pele
are two names for the same man. Pelé was born on October 23,
1940, in Três Corações, a small village in Brazil. Soccer is the most
popular sport in Brazil, and like most other children of his age, Pelé
grew up playing soccer
Too poor to afford a soccer ball, Pelé and his playmates often made
one by tying together a bunch of rags. Their playing field was usu-
ally a sidewalk. Oldtin cans marked where the goalposts should be.
Pelé and the other boys from his neighborhood often dreamed of
one day becoming professional soccer players. They formed a neigh-
borhood soccer team, calling it the September 7 team after the name
of the street where they lived.
At the age of eleven, Pelé was discovered by Waldemar de Brito,
a former professional player. De Brito was then coach of the Ba-
uru Soccer Club. He signed Pelé to play for the junior Bauru team.
In 1956, when Pelé was fifteen, de Brito took him to the city of
Santos, Brazil, to try out for the Santos professional team. Pelé
immediately distinguished himself as one of the best players,
and he was not even sixteen years old yet
D. Pele's first game with Santos was on September 7-the name of
the street he once lived on the name of his first team, and the
date of Brazil's National Independence Day. In 1957, when Pelé
was sixteen, he was selected to play on Brazil's national team. He
scored the only goal for Brazil in the first game and another goal
in the second game. Then in 1958. Pelé helped Brazil win its first
World Cup, Between 1958 and 1970, Pelė played in four World
Cups
E. Throughout his career, Pelé had an amazing ability to move peo-
ple. Everybody wanted to see him play. In 1969, a war in Nigeria
was stopped for two days because the Santos team had been in
vited to play there and people on both sides were so eager to see
Pelé play. When Pelé retired in 1974, people thought he was leav-
ing the game for good, but six months later he signed up to play
for the New York Cosmos in the United States
F. Pelé was awarded the 1978 International Peace Award and was
named Athlete of the Century in 1980. He also was inducted into
the Black Athletes Hall of Fame in 1975. Most recently, Pelė was
named the National Olympics Committee's top athlete, even
though he never competed in the Olympics! Pele's name has be-
come synonymous with excellence in soccer. His 20-year career
has yielded some of the most memorable moments in soccer his-
tory. People today still refer to him as the great Pelé, the King of
Soccer

television in our life  

television now plays an important role in our life. it is difficult to say if it is good or bad for us. it is clear, that television has advantages and disadvantages.  

but are there more advantages than disadvantages? in the first place, television is an entertainment. but it is not only a convenient entertainment. for a family of three, four or five, for example, it is more convenient and less expensive to sit comfortably at home than to go out to find entertainment in other places. they don't have to pay for expensive seats at the theatre or cinema. they turn on the tv-set and can watch interesting films, concerts, football matches.  

but some people think that it's bad to watch tv. those who watch tv need do nothing. we are passive when we watch tv. television shows us many interesting programmes. but again there is a disadvantage here: we watch tv every evening, and it begins to dominate our lives.  

my friend told me that when his tv-set broke down, he and his family found that they had more time to do things and to talk to each other. there are other arguments for and against television.  

very often the programmes are bad. sometimes they show too much violence in films and news programmes. there is also too much pop music and ads. ads on the whole are convenient for grown-ups. but is it good for children to watch all those ads where they show all kinds of underwear and what not?

телевидение играет важную роль в нашей жизни. трудно сказать, хорошо это или плохо. ясно, что телевидение имеет свои преимущества и недостатки.  

но чего больше — преимуществ или недостатков? в первую очередь, телевидение — это развлечение. но это не только удобные развлечения. семье из трех, четырех или пяти человек, например, удобнее и выгоднее сидеть дома, чем куда-нибудь идти и искать развлечений в других местах. им не надо оплачивать дорогие билеты в театр или кино. они включают телевизор и смотрят интересные фильмы, концерты и футбольные матчи.  

но некоторые люди думают, что смотреть телевизор вредно. телезрителям не надо ничего делать. когда мы смотрим телевизор, мы пассивны. телевидение демонстрирует нам много интересных программ. но в этом есть и недостаток: мы смотрим телевизор каждый вечер, и он начинает доминировать в нашей жизни.  

мой друг сказал мне, что когда у него сломался телевизор, то он и вся его семья обнаружили, что у них появилось больше времени на то, чтобы что-то сделать или поговорить друг с другом. есть и другие аргументы «за» и «против» телевидения.  

часто показывают плохие программы. иногда в фильмах и новостях много насилия. также по телевизору показывают много поп-музыки и рекламы. в целом, реклама удобна для взрослых. но разве полезно детям смотреть всю эту рекламу, где показывают разное нижнее белье и что угодно?

свободного времени у подростков мало. те , кто ходят на кружки вообще приходят домой вечером и делают уроки поздно . но у меня к счастью много своего свободного времени .

для меня хорошее препровождение времени – это сон. когда я прихожу домой, я просто ложусь и через пару минут засыпаю. за немало лет своей жизни я спала днём только по принуждению, а сейчас устаю настолько сильно, что сплю каждый день. когда я просыпаюсь , то беру книжку и начинаю читать. я люблю читать . мама приучила меня к чтению с самого детства. после чтения я делаю уроки, затем смотрю свой любимый детективный сериал «кости» (о работе антрополога и агентов фбр). ещё я люблю слушать музыку . на моём плеере более трёх сотен песен . в музыке я нахожу отображение моей жизни и моих мыслей .

отдых – это замечательно. а заниматься чем-нибудь на досуге, причём полезным – ещё лучше. но для отдыха необходимо подобрать правильное время. как гласит пословица: «делу время, а потехе - час! »

teenagers have very little free time. those who attend classes generally come home in the evening and do their homework late. but fortunately i have a lot of my free time.

for me, a good pastime is a dream. when i get home, i just go to bed and fall asleep in a couple of minutes. for many years of my life, i slept during the day only under duress, and now i get so tired that i sleep every day. when i wake up, i take a book and start reading. i really love to read . mom taught me to read from childhood. after reading, i do my homework, then watch my favorite detective series bones (about the work of an anthropologist and fbi agents). i also love listening to music. there are more than three hundred songs on my player. in music, i find a reflection of my life and my thoughts.

rest is wonderful. and to do something at your leisure, and useful - even better. but for the rest you need to choose the right time. as the proverb says: “cause time, but fun - an hour! ”
