The monument "Astana-Baiterek" is considered to be the symbol and the main attraction of Astana. Baitereu is a high metal structure with a huge ball on top. The height of the structure is 97 meters and marks the transfer of the capital from Almaty to Astana in 1997. The idea of the building belongs to the President of the Republic of Kazakhstan, Nursultan Abishevich Nazarbayev. . In the year 2002 at the opening of the monument, the President of Kazakhstan said: "Anyone who rises here will absorb the steppe breadth of Kazakhstan and the immensity of our state."
