Sights and attractions

There are lots of things to see and do in London. Walk around the centre

and see famous landmarks like Big Ben and Westminster Abbey. Visit the

Tower of London where England's kings and queens lived and see Britain's

precious Crown Jewels. Go to Buckingham Palace at 11:30 am and

(see) the famous 'Changing of the Guard' ceremony. And don't

miss London's art galleries and museums - (most) are free to get into!

Shopping

There are over 40,000 shops in London. Oxford Street is Europe's (busiest)

high street with over 300 shops. Locals and tourists also

visit London's many markets. A walk through Camden Lock Market in

Camden Town (On) a Saturday is a must.

Eating

With over 270 nationalities in London, you can try food from just about (every) country in the world. Make sure you try the UK's mostfamous dish - fish and chips!

Getting around

London has a quick underground train system (the 'tube' as the locals call

it). (There) are also the famous red 'double-decker' buses. The tube

is quicker, but you will see more of London from a bus! You can also take

one of London's famous black cabs. Cabbies* can take you to wherever (you) ask, as they know every single street in London. That's 25,000 streets!

Accommodation

London has every type of accommodation you could imagine. From

luxurious hotels to bed and breakfasts, you aren't going to (have)

a problem finding somewhere to stay!

My Favourite Literary Hero My name is Efim. I'm 12 years old and I study at a state secondary school. From the early age I've been fond of reading. When I was only five, my mum read or told me fairy-tales before going to bed. When I grew older, I started reading books myself. One of the recent books that I've read was "The Adventures of Tom Sawyer" by Mark Twain. Since then, my favourite fictional hero is Tom Sawyer. I admire the courage and inventiveness of this twelve-year old boy. He gets away nearly with everything, although he is often caught in trouble. He lives with his aunt Polly, his cousin Mary and his half-brother Sid. They don't get along well, because Sid is a seemingly positive hero, while Tom often misbehaves. He is rather careless and he likes showing off in front of other boys. His best friends are Huckleberry Finn and Joe Harper. In my opinion, this hero represents childhood in all forms. He can easily get in love with a girl. His first love was Amy Lawrence, but later he fell in love with his classmate Becky Thatcher. He can run away with friends to an island to enjoy freedom. Apart from aunt Polly, Tom has a distant aunt Sally Phelps, who lives considerably far, down the river Mississippi. Aunt Polly is rather stern, but she has a loving and caring nature. She does care about Tom and his behavior. She genuinely worries when the boys disappear. The next book that I'm going to read is “The Adventures if Huckleberry Finn” written by the same author. My mum says that my favourite literary hero, Tom Sawyer, appears in this book as well.Меня зовут Ефим. Мне 12 лет и я учусь в средней общеобразовательной школе. С детства я люблю читать.
