I have been working as a trained chef for several years and I am also a restaurant and food critic.
I’m currently taking part in a reality TV series 33 Some of the situations I have dealt with in
the series are quite incredible. I’ll just mention a few to show some of the problems 34 .
In many cases, it is the food that is not up to standard. One Italian restaurant that I visited recently
served me nothing but frozen or re-cooked food. I had to spend several days re-training the chef
35 . The last restaurant I visited was in a stunning position by the sea, and there wasn’t a
dish of fresh fish on the menu!
Next week, I’m taking the owners out fishing to show them what they have been missing!
Some chefs I have met have simply lost their passion for food. But sometimes they will give it one
more try, because of the support and encouragement 36 .
My worst eating experience was in a burger restaurant. The burgers were all either undercooked
or overcooked and burnt on the outside. What a disaster! I find it unbelievable 37 .
Other problems I have encountered usually concern the staff or the management, particularly if
it’s a family-run business. Working with family can be stressful, but we usually manage to work out
a solution together, mainly 38 .
At least I feel really happy when the restaurants I visit improve!
